🔌 Why MQTT?

Alpha Connect Hub uses the lightweight and reliable MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) protocol, the industry standard for IoT communication. Its low overhead and real-time capability make it perfect for device messaging, especially in constrained environments.

🛠️ Middleware & Platform Integration

We explored cloud services like Azure IoT Hub and ThingSpeak, but found them less flexible for deep custom integration. AlphaTech chose to integrate EMQX, a fully open-source MQTT broker known for its performance and configurability, giving us complete control over the data flow between devices and the platform.

🚀 Hosting Challenges & Solutions

Container Limitations: Running MQTT inside Node.js apps led to config reset issues on CaaS platforms (e.g., Docker).
Security Risk: Modifying EMQX config files inside containers made it difficult to persist sensitive data like credentials.

To overcome this, AlphaTech migrated to VM-based deployment, offering full system control, persistent storage, and better scalability for future upgrades.

🔐 Secured Device Authentication

We implemented a secure credential system using EMQX's built-in database querying functionality, ensuring that each device can authenticate with unique credentials—without exposing any backend logic, database schema, or vulnerability.

📊 Real-Time Data Visualization

Alpha Connect Hub provides a live dashboard to monitor IoT data in real-time. Users can visualize device behavior, check logs, and understand performance without technical complexity—making it suitable for both industrial and domestic applications.
